LEARN HINDI STEP BY STEP 8 – MY & YOUR

As we are learning Hindi step by step, gaining some knowledge in every other post and moving forward in the way to perfect speaking Hindi language one day. So, far we have learnt following lessons.

Now, its time to move forward , let me introduce you MY and YOUR Grammar in Hindi. In this LEARN HINDI STEP BY STEP 8TH  lesson you will learn following things :

MY in Hindi :

My has three words in Hindi which we use based on gender, number & respect.

1. Mera (मेरा) –  For Singular Masculine Words with friendly respect

If the following word after MY is masculine and singular. Like

Mera Bhai मेरा भाई  ( My brother)

Mera Ghoda मेरा घोड़ा ( My horse) .

Here Bhai(brother) &  Ghoda( horse) are masculine , plural and friendly words (don’t require much respect to provide)

 2.  Meri (मेरी) – For Singular/ Plural Feminine word

If the following word after MY is feminine no matter of number either singular like Bahan (बहन) – sister or Bahano (बहनों)sisters, then you have to select Meri. And, also you don’t have to worry about respect because you can use for very respectful person/thing, friendly person / thing as well well informal feminine things or person. See some example.

Meri Maata मेरी माता( My mother) – Singular feminine word with respect

Meri Bahan मेरी बहन ( My sister) – Singular Feminine word, formal or informal

Meri Gaadi मेरी गाडी ( My car) – Singular Feminine Word

Meri Gaadiyan मेरी गाड़ियाँ ( My cars) – Plural Feminine things

Meri Bhains मेरी भैंस ( My Buffalo) – Singular feminine word

Meri Ladkiyan मेरी लड़कियां  ( My daughters/girls) – Plural feminine word, formal or informal both

3. Mere (मेरे) – For Plural Words & Respectful Masculine Words

If the following word after MY in English sentence, is plural masculine word or singular but respectful thing/person, then always use MERE (मेरे). See the examples given below :

Mere Ladke मेरे लड़के ( My boys/sons) – Plural Masculine word

Mere Pitaa Jee मेरे पिता जी ( My father) – Singular but respectful masculine person.

Mere Guru jee  मेरे गुरु जी ( my teacher) – Singular but respectful person.

Mere Ghode मेरे घोड़े( my horses) – Plural masculine word (animal name)

Now as you have learnt to use MERA (मेरा), MERI (मेरी) &  MERE (मेरे), so let’s learn some practical application/

USE / APPLICATION

Here I am going to show you how can you use the knowledge above you learnt. Let’s learn to say – My name is ______

Mera Naam ____________ Hai.

मेरा नाम   ______________    है|

My name is _______________.

Now in the blank space put any name that will complete the sentence with no mistake. And, NAME (NAAM नाम ) is masculine word in Hindi, that is why we selected MERA (मेरा). See some examples :

– Mera Naam Anil Hai. ( My name is Anil)

मेरा नाम अनिल है

– Mera Naam Gita Hai. ( My name is Gita)

मेरा नाम गीता है |

– Mera Naam Sujit Hai (My name is Sujit)

    मेरा नाम सुजीत है |

2. YOUR

Just like MY in Hindi language has got 3 different words , YOUR has also got 3 different words – Tumhara, Tumhari & Tumhare.

1. Tumhara (तुम्हारा) – For Singular Masculine and friendly level

If the following word after YOUR in English sentence is masculine singular and word represents a person or thing which is not so much respectful , but like a friend then you can use Tumhara (तुम्हारा). See the examples below.

Tumhara Bhai (तुम्हारा भाई) – Your brother

Tumhara Dost (तुम्हारा दोस्त) – Your friend

Tumhara Ghoda (तुम्हारा घोड़ा) – Your Horse

Tumhara Kutta (तुम्हारा कुत्ता) – Your dog

2. Tumhari (तुम्हारी) – For Plural/Singular Feminine words

If the following word after Your is feminine , no matter of singular or plural or respect, simply use Tumhari (तुम्हारी). See some examples :

1. Tumhari Bahan (तुम्हारी बहन) – Your sister – Singular

2. Tumhari Mata/Maa (तुम्हारी माता/माँ) – Your mother

3. Tumhari Chidiya  (तुम्हारी चिड़िया) – Your Bird

4. Tumhari Ladkiyan (तुम्हारी लड़कियां) – Your daughters/ girls

3. Tumhare (तुम्हारे) – For plural masculine word and respective singular masculine person/thing

If the following word after YOUR in English sentence, is plural masculine word or singular but respectful thing/person, then always use MERE (मेरे). See the examples given below :

Tumhare Ladke तुम्हारे लड़के ( My boys/sons) – Plural Masculine word

Tumhare Pitaa Jee तुम्हारे पिता जी ( My father) – Singular but respectful masculine person.

Tumahara Naam Jeny Hai. (You name is Jenny)

तुम्हारा नाम जेनी है |
